推定 (presumption)
You presume information, a thing of Hearsay: you think it is true. らしい usually sounds relatively confident.
{噂|うわさ}によると、地震であったらしいです It appears that an earthquake has happened.

(...)-like
can be used to denote that something has a typical property; e.g. 'that's so it-like'. also often used to denote a 'style' of something, implying it is a property.
トムは本当に男らしいね Tom is really manly.
学生らしくもっと勉強しなさい。 Please study more like a student.
あの音楽はめっちゃ日本らしい。 This music is very japan-style.
今日は8月らしくないです。涼しいです。 Today is really not typical of august. It's cool.
遅刻するなんて彼らしい。 It's very typical of him to be late.
今年の8月は夏らしい夏だね。 August this year is the prime example of summer. (Literally, 'the most summery summer')
