止む

{止|や}む= Lit. to stop

Can be used as an auxiliary verb to denote you stop doing a thing. Doesn't imply whether you finish, just that you quit doing it.

子供がやっと泣きやんだ The child finally stopped crying.

目覚まし時計が鳴:り止みません The alarm clock won't stop ringing
